Hoodia Review (UPDATE: 2020)

What is Hoodia?

Hoodia is a natural cactus plant extract that comes from the South African Kalahari Desert. In more recent years, this cactus extract has caused quite a stir in the world of weight loss supplements and dieting. Countless supplement companies have some type of Hoodia Gordonii diet pill on the market at this point. Aside from traditional capsule and tablet products, there are liquid supplements, gum, powder, and gummies available with this ingredient as well. Apparently this cactus plant has been used for hundreds of years by indigenous San bushmen as a way to suppress hunger.

Hoodia Product Specifics

Countless products containing Hoodia Gordonii can be found on Amazon, as well as other online supplement stores. Many of them cost anywhere from $20 to over $100 per bottle. Some contain around 500 milligrams of this cactus plant extract, while others contain up to 2,000 milligrams per serving. It is often stated that the diet pill advertised contains 100% authentic Hoodia Gordonii, while others do not. This is a common marketing ploy.

The purpose of this diet pill is to suppress appetite, so you consume fewer calories. This naturally leads to weight loss over time. It contains an active molecule called P57, which sends signals to the brain, telling it you are full and satisfied. Hoodia is not supposed to cause any side effects. Potentially you can drop up to 10 pounds in a month, even without changing your diet and exercise program.

The Skinny on Hoodia for Weight Loss

You really need to do some research prior to investing in any weight loss products. The reality is so many of these over-the-counter supplements and miracle pills are not nearly as effective as claimed. While Hoodia Gordonii is wonderful in theory, there is just as much negative feedback for this diet pill ingredient as there is positive feedback. In other words, Hoodia products may or may not suppress your appetite.

  1. Okay, here's the deal, Hoodia diet pills do not work! I'm sorry all of you Hoodia manufacturers, but these diet pills do ABSOLUTELY nothing for me. I'm still hungry. I still crave junk food! And I don't lose weight. I get better results with daily exercise. - Margaret

  2. Hi Margaret, I have heard this complaint more than once. Hoodia Gordonii clearly does not work for everyone. While this natural cactus plant extract is supposed to reduce hunger, it may not have any effect at all, depending on how your body reacts to it.
